| Question | Answer |
| Matter | Anything that has volume or mass (takes up space) |
| Mass | The quantity of matter in which an object or a person takes up |
| Volume | The amount of space a substance occupies |
| Physical Properties | Characteristics of matter that can be observed or measured |
| State | Solid, liquid, gas, plasma, Bose-Einstein condensate |
| Malleability | The ability to be beaten into sheets |
| Ductility | The ability to be drawn into wires |
| Conductivity | The ability to conduct electricity or heat |
| Density | The ratio of a material's mass to its volume |
| Element | A pure substance that contains one type of atom |
| Atom | The smallest constituent unit of ordinary matter that has the properties of a chemical element |
| Compound | A pure substance that contains two or more types of atoms |
| Solution | A uniform mixture in which the two or more substances are indistinguishable from one another and will not separate |
| Suspension | A mixture in which one substance forms pieces or droplets that will separate if allowed to stand |
| Mechanical Mixture | A mixture in which the two or more substances can be seen as distinct with the naked eye |
| Physical Change | A change in matter in which no new substance is produced i.e. ripping paper |
| Chemical Change | A change in matter in which one or more new substances are produced. Releases or absorbs energy. The mass of the reactants is equal to that of the products. |
| Solid | A state of matter that has definite shape and volume, mere vibration of particles, and little space between them |
| Liquid | A state of matter that has definite volume and takes the shape of the container, particles can slide past each other, and some space between them |
| Gas | A state of matter with its shape and volume determined by its surroundings, particles are free to move around, and lots of space between them |
| Condensation | A change of state in which gas becomes liquid |
| Evaporation | A change of state in which liquid becomes gas |
| Melting/Liquification | A change of state in which solid becomes liquid |
| Freezing/Solidification | A change of state in which liquid becomes solid |
| Sublimation | A change of state in which solid becomes gas |
| Deposition | A change of state in which gas becomes solid |
| Kinetic Energy | The energy that an object possesses due to its motion |
| Subatomic Particle | Particles that are much smaller than atoms i.e. protons, neutrons, electrons |
| Electron | A subatomic particle with a negative charge, surrounds the nucleus in a shell |
| Proton | A subatomic particle with a positive charge, found in the nucleus |
| Neutron | A subatomic particle with a neutral charge, found in the nucleus |
| Nucleus | The compact centre of an atom, made of protons and neutrons |
| Endothermic | Heat is consumed in the reaction (gets colder) |
| Exothermic | Heat is produced in the reaction (gets hotter) |
| Qualitative | A measurement that can be observed but not measured |
| Quantitative | A measurement that can be measured numerically |
